Water leak puts a damper on Jane Eyre party

The Alice In Wonderland star takes on the title role in the new adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel, opposite Michael Fassbender and Dame Judi Dench.

The film was screened for a celebrity-packed audience, including Glenn Close and Zoe Kravitz, at Manhattan's Tribeca Grand Hotel and guests were invited to enjoy an afterparty at the Soho Grand.

But plans were thrown into chaos when it was revealed the bar at the Soho Grand had been flooded by a burst water pipe.


A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six that the banquet manager at the Soho Grand, Victor Ryan, ran down the street to break the bad news to studio press agents, telling them, "You cannot have your party at the Soho... there's a waterfall from the ceiling showering the entire bar. The room is now under two inches of water."

Organisers had to switch venues at the last minute and ended up hosting the bash at the Tribeca Grand instead.

Sex Offender Gets Out of Jail

On Thursday in West Baton Rogue, LA a sex offender underwent castration to gain his freedom from prison. The surgery took place at LSU Earl K. Long Medical Center.

Francis Phillip Tullier, 78, from West Baton Rogue, was convicted of molesting three different girls hundreds of times during the time spanning from the 1970s to the 1990s. He pleaded to three counts of child molestation in 1999 and was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

As part of his sentencing, the court declared that the paedophile would be eligible for parole only if he under went a surgical castration procedure and only if he paid for it himself.

According to a sheriff's investigator Tullier's surgery had been delayed several years because Tullier was treated for several medical issues.

Tullier is expected to be released next week and will be on parole as a registered sex offender, living in Iberville Parish.

There are 12 US states which allow for surgical castration as a punishment for repeat sex offenders.

Larger-than-life question popped during a Valentine's Day lunch date 

CANTON, Ohio — An Ohio woman has said yes to a marriage proposal that arrived by bus.

Laura Kalamets looked out a Canton restaurant window during a Valentine's Day lunch with her boyfriend and saw a public bus with an ad on its side that read: "Laura, Will You Marry Me?" It was signed "Mark" and included in smaller letters the words "and make me the happiest man in the world."
Kalamets says she thought she'd have a heart attack.
Mark Rose paid the transit agency $300 for the special ad and arranged for the bus to be parked in the right spot around noon on Monday.
