The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, was sentenced to a year and a day for illegal firearms possession and possessing a gun as a convicted felon. He was arrested in August 2007 in a federal sting, just before he was to perform at the BET hip-hop awards.
Harris was able to postpone his sentence until May by completing about 1,000 hours of community service in which he warned youth about the dangers of weapons.
The Grammy-winning singer released his sixth CD, Paper Trail in 2008 and made a reality TV show, T.I.'s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go, which chronicled his community service efforts with teenagers across the country.
Harris will face three years of supervision, during which time he must submit a DNA sample and drug counselling and cannot own firearms.
His lawyer Steve Sadow said Harris "did his very best to adjust to his circumstances" in prison and knew he had to pay for his crime.
