Teen Hit By Softball Dies, A California teen has died after being struck in the chest by a softball during gym class, school officials said.

According to reports, 16-year-old Taylor Dorman was hit with a ball on Wednesday during a game at Ramona High School. Officials say the sophomore  initially appeared to be fine, even cracking a joke about the incident.

“After being hit Taylor complained of his chest hurting then he collapsed,” Newman told PIX11 affiliate FOX 5 San Diego.

He reportedly collapsed 20 minutes after he was struck. The school’s coach called 911 and paramedics were quickly on the scene.

Upon arriving to the hospital, Dorman was pronounced dead.

“We had planned our lives together. We were going to play football for another two years and then join the military,” said Chris Hartness, one of Dorman’s best friends. “Now that’s all gone.”
