Rodney King Engaged To Juror Cynthia Kelley, On the third day of the Los Angeles riots, Rodney King was thrust in the spotlight again when he was asked to publicly address the social unrest and violence erupting throughout the city.
King’s plea was simple: “People, I just want to say, can we all get along? Can we get along?” He was speaking to a throng of reporters and cameras during a news conference on May 1, 1992. “We’ve just got to, just got to,” he continued. “We’re all stuck here for a while Let’s try to work it out.”
During the riots, more than 50 people were killed and thousands were injured. Damage was estimated at $1 billion as hundreds of businesses were looted and burned to the ground.
