Mom Son Die Same Day, Mom son die in separate accidents, A West Allis family is preparing for two funerals following two separate motor vehicle accidents early Sunday that killed a mother and her son.
Mary J. Moore, 45, was lying in the 1500 block of S. 81st St. when she was struck by a vehicle that sped away from the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday, according to West Allis police.
Then a few hours later, Moore's 22-year-old son was killed when the vehicle he was in overturned on the way to a hospital to check on his mother. Thomas M. Olson was the passenger in a vehicle that struck three parked cars while turning from W. Becher St. to W. National Ave. and overturned around 5:30 a.m.
Alcohol is suspected in both incidents. Speed also is believed to be a factor in the accident that killed Olson, police said.
The driver accused of running over Moore was arrested later Sunday for leaving the scene of an accident. Police are investigating how and why Moore ended up lying in the middle of S. 81st St.
After learning of his mother's accident, Olson and three others were traveling to a hospital when he was killed. The driver, who was arrested on drunken driving allegations, and two other passengers suffered nonlife threatening injuries.
