During his hometown visit last Saturday, May 12, Phillips spent a day with his family doctor who was alarmed at his condition. According to TMZ, the personal physician urged him to get the surgery done now after noticing that he was not eating and looked horrible. However, Phillips is trying his best to postpone the procedure after the finale next week.
Phillips, who will battle against Jessica Sanchez in the finale, told Zap2It last week after Final 4 performance that he would have the surgery after finale and be back in time for tour. "Yes, it's probably going to go down. It's a pretty good size surgery and a lot of time down but you gotta do what you gotta do," he said. TMZ reported that the recovery time for the surgery is at least 6 weeks.
Back in March, Phillips was rushed to a hospital for an emergency treatment during show rehearsals although he came back later that night to complete his performance. The 21-year-old singer has also skipped some field productions including the Ford commercials for the sake of his health. His kidney problem is said making his mouth dry which has an effect in his singing.
